Root Domain Redirection Service Extension

Published:
2 mins read
The Root Domain Redirection Service  extension is designed to secure your root domain (also known as naked or apex domain) with SSL and provide automatic redirection to your 'www' domain. This service ensures a seamless and secure experience for your learners on BrainCert.

Use Case

When you type example.com in your browser, it won't redirect to www.example.com because BrainCert's free SSL certificate covers only one domain behind the CDN and firewall, which accelerates website performance. This limitation applies to customers who use their www domain as their main LMS site.

To resolve this, BrainCert offers a Root Domain Redirection extension. Here’s how it works:

  1. Issue: Customers type example.com in their browser, but it doesn’t redirect to www.example.com. The SSL certificate provided by BrainCert only secures the www.example.com domain.

  2. Solution: BrainCert needs to set up a special proxy service to handle this redirection securely. This involves:

    • Generating and installing a custom SSL certificate for example.com.
    • Configuring the server to automatically redirect example.com to www.example.com.
  3. Outcome: After the setup, typing example.com in the browser will seamlessly redirect to www.example.com, ensuring secure and smooth access for users.

Benefits

  • Enhanced Security: Protect your root domain with SSL.
  • Professional Appearance: Redirect users to your 'www' domain.
  • Seamless Experience: Ensure smooth and secure access for your learners.
